Eidstaub
A German modern metalcore album inspired by Oswald von Wolkenstein, translating roads, oaths, exile, imprisonment, faith, feud, and identity into a hard contemporary form.
Eidstaub is a German modern metalcore album inspired by Oswald von Wolkenstein: travel-worn first-person voice, courtly pride turned hostile, oaths, roads, imprisonment, hunger, faith, feud, and identity under pressure.
The album turns courtly insult, exile, debt, love, confinement, dependency, sacred noise, self-judgment, and oath into a hard modern form. It is less a historical retelling than a metalcore pressure chamber built from old motifs: pride under mud, speech under toll, faith under noise, and a final vow that survives only as dust.
The album should feel old and modern at the same time: medieval social violence translated into tight, technical, aggressive metalcore rather than folk-metal reenactment. The historical inspiration is structural and atmospheric, not decorative.
The record opens outward with pride in the mud, then moves through speech, road, debt, love, captivity, dependency, and corrupted holiness. Spiegelfehde turns the feud inward before Eidstaub gathers the album motifs into one final vow.
Eidstaub was originally released as a single full-album video on 20 June 2026. It was replaced on 24 July 2026 by a public playlist of individual track videos, and the original video was withdrawn from public access.
Process and authorship
According to a story passed down through my late grandmother, I am a direct descendant of Oswald von Wolkenstein.
I cannot prove that here. Maybe it is genealogy, maybe it is family memory, maybe it is one of those inherited stories that becomes true in a different way because it keeps pulling on you. But this is where Eidstaub starts: with the strange feeling that an old voice might still be somewhere in the line, not as bloodline pride, but as pressure, rhythm, stubbornness, road-dust, and argument.
Eidstaub is inspired by Oswald von Wolkenstein: roads, oaths, mud, debt, prison stone, foreign bread, sacred noise, mirror-feud, and the last hard residue of a vow. This is not a historical reenactment and not folk metal. It is medieval pressure translated into modern metalcore.
